  • Lectors and Commentators | Our Lady of Solitude

Ministries and Groups Extraordinary of the Eucharist Sacristans Religious Choir Ushers Altar Servers Lectors and Commentators Ministry of the Sick Lectors & Commentators English | Spanish Minister of Lectors Our lectors are the definition of our Lord speaking through them. Since they dedicate themselves to learning and reading the Scriptures of the Lord, they become the teaching of what he would want all of us to be. That being, people of good spreading his teachings and love for all of us to get a new perspective on life. During Mass, the liturgy is when the Lectors step up and read from the scriptures that were once upon the reality of Jesus himself. Therefore, this makes this part of mass the most important due to the lectors spreading the word, the priest reading the Gospel, and the whole community receiving a Homily as part of an afterthought to what was learned and grasped through the Liturgical part of the Mass. Our Lectors would be the happiest to have new people on their team. If you know the order of mass and the sacred scriptures, you’re verbal, and have a clear voice when reading, this could be a new start for you at our church. We encourage you to contact us if this Ministry interests you, and we will be sure to help you every step of the way to get you in contact with the coordinator. Through this sacrament, we discover our life path to be guided by the Holy Spirit that will continue to lead us towards the people of god, the body of Christ, all these being the church. By being Baptized we are freeing ourselves from all sin within and around us as we are choosing a life path for the better. • Anointing of the Sick | Our Lady of Solitude

Anointing of the Sick Luke 4:18 - “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, Anointing of the sick The anointing of the sick consists of a moment where the anointing oils and the prayers of the Father lead to the divine presence of Jesus Christ in hopes of healing them. Whether the illness is in plain sight or not visible, the priest takes measures to bless the body of those who call upon healing. There is no need for the person to be at a point of death for them to receive the sacrament. However, the person may not receive physical healing if at a point of death, though, spiritually they have been removed from all sin and filled with peace. That being said when a father is called to pray for the person in need of his blessing, we ask certain questions to the responsible person calling in this misfortune of event. We ask of the person: Can the person in need of the sacrament talk? If so, confession is required. In the matter that they can’t speak, the father will take different measures with the confession aspect. Can the person eat or drink? If so, by request of the sick, the Father will proceed to deliver the sacrament of the bread and the blood of Christ. If the sick cannot do any of the above, a different procedure will be performed. If the sick are not able to perform any of these, the Father will go ahead and bless them with a prayer, holy oil, and his divine presence. If the person that's ill can communicate, be sure to get their permission before calling our office to obtain this sacrament. Information required of you: Name and phone number of the person in contact The patient's name and location A backup name and number For more information or questions, contact our Parish Office. The United States Catholic Catechism for Adults states that Jesus' entire mission occurred in communion with the Spirit and that before his death he made a promise that the Spirit would be given to his apostles and the entire church. • Sacristans | Our Lady of Solitude

Ministries and Groups Extraordinary of the Eucharist Sacristans Religious Choir Ushers Altar Servers Lectors and Commentators Ministry of the Sick Sacristans Spanish Ministry of the Sacristans The ministry of Sacristans is one of the many sacred ministries in the Catholic Church. This ministry is so important since it consists of being the leader of the mass on many occasions, as well as being in charge of what happens in the sacristy during the Mass. The time and talent to plan and organize the liturgy, to put away the church and the vestments, to keep the vessels and utensils clean and tidy, or to provide decorations that reflect the spirit of the holiday or liturgical season is all thanks to the sacristans. Even helping altar servers when needed, or being an altar server when assigned, the role of sacristans varies from multitasking to being in solitude once mass begins. If you know you can work on many tasks at the same time, free during Mass hours, and are interested in the ministry, contact our office and we will help you begin the process of becoming a sacristan. Contact To join a ministry, contact us and we will provide you with the necessary information. [email protected] (323) 269-7248
